Mayor Liz Gibbons is proud to introduce a new initiative aimed at enhancing Kirkwood’s urban forest and educating the community on the best trees for our local landscape. The Tree of the Year program will serve as an annual opportunity to highlight exceptional tree species, promote sustainable planting practices, and encourage tree stewardship throughout the City.

What to Expect:

  • A Vision for a Greener Kirkwood - Mayor Liz Gibbons will share the inspiration behind this initiative and introduce the Tree of the Year Trask Force, a group of dedicated citizens and City staff leading the effort.

  • 2025 Tree of the Year Announcement - Be there for the exciting reveal of Kirkwood’s very first Tree of the Year, chosen for its resilience, beauty, and benefits to the community.

  • Featured Presentation by Arborist Guy Sternberg - Learn from a leading expert about the importance of tree selection and the role of trees in a thriving environment.

  • Educational & Community Resources - Explore interactive tables hosted by:

    • Kirkwood Urban Forestry Commission

    • Missouri Department of Conservation
