"The arts are not for the privileged few, but for the many. Their place is not on the periphery of daily life, but at its center. They should function not merely as another form of entertainment but, rather, should contribute significantly to our wellbeing and happiness." -- John D. Rockefeller

We also highlight local performers and strengthen the local artistic community year-round through community outreach programs and workshops. We are committed to enhancing public appreciation and support of opera in St. Louis and preserving the beauty of this art form for generations to come.
The St. Louis Philharmonic was once described by the famed conductor Eugene Ormandy in Time Magazine as “the finest amateur orchestra in the world.” Our professionally trained players have the rare combination of enthusiasm, dedication and musicianship that has attracted and inspired audiences since 1860. Our prestigious orchestra is composed of more than 90 talented musicians selected by audition. We are a mix of professionals, talented amateurs and gifted student musicians. Unique within the musical community, we are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization.
