Be mesmerized by over 50 dance troupes and hundreds of talented dancers, including renowned companies like Ballet 314, WU Dance Collective, and The Big Muddy Dance Company, who will be honored as the 2024 NDW Honorary Dance Company. From ballet and jazz to hip-hop and modern disciplines, experience a kaleidoscope of dance styles that reflect diverse cultural expressions from around the world, including Irish, African, Mexican Folklore, Middle Eastern, and Indian.

In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors to the Kirkwood Performing Arts Center, ensuring that the show goes on rain or shine. Keep your energy up throughout the festivities with a variety of food trucks onsite to tantalize your taste buds.

The BoDeans: A Journey Through Music and Time

Capturing the Heart of America

Delivering an array of tunes recognizable from the first note, electrifying performances you can reliably anticipate, and a surplus of energy to carry with you, the BoDeans persist as a cornerstone of the American songbook—a steadfast institution. Spearheaded by the original frontman, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Kurt Neumann, the band's repertoire encompasses generational anthems like “Good Things,” “You Don’t Get Much,” “Idaho,” and the well-known “Closer to Free.” These tracks merely scratch the surface of their extensive catalog, which continues to mirror the soul and spirit of the contemporary American experience in their fourteenth full-length offering, "4 The Last Time."

Reflecting on his journey with the band, Kurt shares, “The music of BoDeans has defined much of my life. I consider myself fortunate to be able to do what I enjoy. I wanted to creatively do something positive for the world instead of just taking from it. So, this is what I’ve chosen to do with my life. The music was always about the blue-collar dream of a better life, and it still is.”

Originating in Waukesha, WI in 1986, the BoDeans gained prominence with their debut, "Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams," produced by T Bone Burnett. Subsequent albums like "Outside Looking In," "Home," and "Go Slow Down" solidified their presence, with the latter giving rise to the iconic “Closer to Free,” the theme song for the TV series "Party of Five." Their sought-after discography found placements in numerous TV shows and films. Live, they became a proven phenomenon, sharing stages with U2, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, The Pretenders, and David Bowie.

In 2017, "Thirteen" received acclaim, and during the global pandemic, Kurt wrote and recorded their latest album, "4 The Last Time," in his Austin, TX studio.

“We have a classic guitar-driven midwestern rock pop sound,” Kurt explains. “I wanted to make sure there was still some music out there with guitars on it. I feel like I’m getting better at this in my fifties. So, there are a lot of those big rock songs we’ve done for years. I got that vibe down on this record.”

The album kicks off with the energetic anthem “Ya Gotta Go Crazy,” a rootsy, countrified track designed to crank up the volume and inject some fun into challenging times. The following track, “A Little More Time,” features a stomping groove and an anthemic refrain, paying homage to the late Tom Petty.

“I’m A Mess” delves into the dual lives of a career musician, grappling with the challenges of balancing a family and a life on the road. “Anyone But You” unfolds as a poignant love song, and the title track “4 The Last Time” captures the emotional turmoil of a dying relationship, echoing sentiments from its use on NETFLIX’s The Ranch.

The album's opener, “Loved,” doubles as a mission statement—a promise to Kurt's kids that they will know they were loved. “It’s a message to my kids that I’m going to make sure they know how important they are,” he says.

In essence, the BoDeans make a lasting impact through their unfiltered honesty. Kurt expresses his intent for the future: “For the next year, I’m going to be showing up in towns everywhere and trying to bring people together a little more. Come to a BoDeans gig, sing along, and forget about everything else. That’s why I play nowadays. I’d like to keep pushing that message as long as I can.”
